With the two year anniversary looming of the Covid pandemic we couldn’t resist looking at the effects that it has had on the construction industry. Being an essential service and a huge part of our economy, construction has played a huge role in keeping the country afloat during the economic rollercoaster of the last 20 months. One of the biggest issues hasn’t been social distancing but getting enough workers to socially distance from, nevermind the fact that over 300,000 construction workers will be needed in the next ten years as the boomers retire.
But this pandemic hasn’t been all bad, one great thing that has come out of it is the push for more use of technology in construction. As a whole, the industry tends to fall behind because not many contractors are able to take the time to learn something new. The other wonderful thing is that contractors are already so adaptable due to the nature of the industry, and those skills have truly been tested not only by lack of employees but also by disruptions in the supply chain. We’ll get more into that one next week.
